Q: Which versions of macOS does SqueezeBar support?
A: SqueezeBar is built using native Swift/SwiftUI frameworks and supports macOS 14 (Sonoma) and later. It is fully optimized for both Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) and Intel-based Macs.
Q: Does SqueezeBar send my files to any external server?
A: No. SqueezeBar compresses all files locally on your Mac. No files or data ever leave your machine, ensuring complete privacy.
Troubleshooting & Usage
Q: SqueezeBar says it needs file access permission. Why?
A: As a secure sandboxed macOS app, SqueezeBar requires your explicit permission to read original files and write the compressed versions back to your storage. If prompted, please grant the app access to the target directories.
Q: Why is my compressed file larger than the original?
A: If a file is already highly compressed (for example, a highly optimized JPEG or a video using efficient encoding), further compression might increase the file size slightly or yield no savings. SqueezeBar checks for this and, by default, will fall back to using the original file to prevent quality loss and bloated file sizes.
Q: How does PDF compression work?
A: SqueezeBar uses Ghostscript (bundled securely within the application) to perform high-quality PDF vector and text compression.
